How long have you been with the band?*

14 years

What inspired you to start playing a brass instrument?

Probably forced into it by my Mum, don't really remember, like most cornet players I started on a trumpet

 

What do you enjoy the most about brass banding/ music in general?

Absolutely nailing a tricky section and having that look between everyone in the section, the dopamine hit is *chefs kiss*

Why did you choose the instrument you currently play?

Because it's the best

Within the world of brass banding and music, what would your lifetime goal look like?

Don't have one, I'm just here for the ride

Has any one person or band inspired you, and if so how?

Black Dyke, they did the Groundforce theme, never play it live might I add, shocking behaviour

 

What is your favourite music to play with the band and why? (Marchs, hymns, current music etc.)

My favourite piece to play is a paradoxical dance of joy and sorrow, the Coventry Carol weaves a tapestry of human resilience. It reminds us that even in the bleakest moments, music can lift our souls, connecting us to something greater—a celestial promise that transcends pain and loss.

 

What do you feel makes Harworth Brass unique from other bands or 

why did you choose to play with Harworth Brass?

You don't choose Harworth Brass, Harworth Brass chooses you, aka. Jan

What is your favourite memory or occasion from your time with Harworth Brass, and what made it special to you?

The development of the "Jan chant" was a pretty significant evening, so probably that
